Welcome from the President
Greetings! I will never forget
my first big social outing … a play group attempt at a local park …
with my then 11-month old twin boys. As I walked toward the
playground, I saw the most beautiful sight: mommies and their singleton
babies sitting on an open blanket, looking at books. Another woman was
peacefully feeding her child, smiling with every coo. Suddenly, I
panicked. Where would I go and what would I do once I took my
just-starting-to-run twins out of their restraint - I mean, stroller?
Sure enough, as soon as I turned around to hang my 3-ton diaper bag, my
boys were gone! One toddled towards the outskirts of the park. The
other ran clear towards the moving swings! Whom should I go after
first? Was everyone starring at me? Why weren’t any of these moms
coming to my rescue?!
That was my first and last
singleton play group. I am sure that had I stuck around, I would have
found the other parents to be sweet, lovable, and helpful. However, it
was at that moment that I decided to seek out a Mothers of Multiples
group. I wanted - heck, I needed to surround myself with other
parents who knew firsthand what it was like to juggle multiple
feedings, baths, and temper tantrums.
Mothers of Multiples fast became
my lifeline. When our twins were two and climbing out of their cribs,
it was my Mothers of Multiples group who reassured my husband and I
that we WOULD get through it. (We did). When we felt ready to embark
on our first solo flight with twin toddlers, I got helpful tips (things
I would have never dreamed of!) from these brilliant and experienced
parents of twins, triplets and more. When I was ready to get rid of
my nearly 10 boxes of matching baby clothes, the Mothers of Multiples
Clothing and Equipment Sale made it easy, and I made some quick cash!
As the months went by, I happily
grew more able to enjoy the blessing of having twins, thanks to my
Mothers of Multiples group. Today, having raised my little preemies
into big strong young boys, I am now able to share my experiences with
other families of multiples. For that, I am grateful.
Welcome to the San Antonio Area Mothers of Multiples. Welcome to the uniquely special journey of having and raising multiples.
Twincerely,
Erin Kirwan
